25 years ago, five leading rechargeable battery manufacturers came together to form the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (now Call2Recycle, Inc.) to drive battery recycling awareness. Since then, the organization has worked with national stewards, partners and consumers to spread education on battery recycling practices with the goal of safely diverting batteries from landfills. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) invite waste management industry members to a series of workshops on lithium battery safety. Topics include an overview on the latest regulatory requirements on proper lithium battery packaging, marking and labeling in addition to a basic understanding of how to apply the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).
